Aarohi Koraa’s “Close To You”: A Journey of Self-Taught Passion and Unwavering Dream

Aarohi Koraa, a young artist from Chandigarh, represents a rare kind of creative resilience, one that thrives despite the odds. Her latest single Close To You is more than just a song; it’s a reflection of years of persistence, learning, heartbreak, and self-discovery. At just 20, Aarohi’s journey from a self-taught musician to a producer and songwriter is both inspiring and deeply personal.
Coming from a family of musicians, one would assume that music would be a natural part of her upbringing. But for Aarohi, it was the opposite. Music wasn’t encouraged, it was dismissed. “When I saw no one willing to teach me singing or instruments, I took the matter into my own hands,” she recalls. With that determination, she began teaching herself everything from scratch, finding comfort in opera CDs, orchestral performances, and the magic of live shows she’d watch as a child.

Her journey as a writer began early. By the age of seven, she had already filled notebooks with poems. But when her family discovered her writing and those notebooks went missing, it crushed her. “I was heartbroken. I stopped writing for a while,” she shares. Yet, passion always finds a way back. By age eleven, Aarohi was writing songs again, pouring her heart into lyrics that carried her emotions, dreams, and reflections.
As a student, she was academically driven, often torn between excelling in school and nurturing her artistic side. Still, she found ways to keep her connection with music alive through school competitions, where she consistently won as “Best Vocalist” in Chandigarh’s Tricity region. That validation pushed her to take music seriously. By fifteen, she was experimenting with keyboards, posting covers on YouTube, and studying Western vocal techniques through online tutorials, since finding a coach in India who understood her style was nearly impossible.

“I practiced every day, even when people mocked me for my love of opera,” she says. Through persistence, Aarohi’s voice transformed. By eighteen, she was singing confidently, ready to bring her original music to life. But finding a producer who could capture her vision proved difficult. “People here were more drawn to Punjabi music. I felt like no one could help me,” she explains.
So, she became her own producer. In 2023, Aarohi took a gap year from college to master music production, theory, and instruments like piano and guitar. “I even taught myself how to dance that year,” she laughs. Working on a 15-year-old iMac with technical glitches and outdated software didn’t stop her. “It was frustrating, but I never gave up,” she says. Things changed dramatically in 2024 when she finally upgraded her equipment, and so did her sound.
Close To You marks the culmination of that growth. The track is a blend of orchestral EDM, dream pop, and alternative R&B, lush, emotional, and deeply cinematic. The song explores longing, not just for a lover, but for dreams, goals, and one’s future self. “It’s about the feeling of wanting something or someone so deeply that it shapes your world,” Aarohi explains. The song’s romantic yet introspective tone captures that universal desire to live without regrets and embrace vulnerability.
What’s most remarkable about Aarohi’s story is that she’s done it all on her own, teaching, writing, composing, and producing every part of her art. Her mixes, praised by professionals for their clarity and polish, are a testament to what relentless effort can achieve. “My music is proof that deep work and persistence can make anything possible,” she says.
With Close To You, Aarohi Koraa isn’t just releasing a song, she’s sharing a piece of her evolution. Her story is a reminder that passion, when nurtured with discipline and belief, can rise above every obstacle and shine through the noise.
