‘Chunnari Chunnari’ Remake: “Himmat Bhi Nahi Kar Sakte Batane Ki,” Says Abhijeet Bhattacharya On Not Being Informed

Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has expressed his disapproval regarding the recreation of his 1999 hit song “Chunnari Chunnari” for the upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, starring Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde, and Mrunal Thakur. The original track, composed by Anu Malik and featuring vocals by Abhijeet and Anuradha Sriram, was picturized on Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen in the film Biwi No.1.
In a recent interview, Abhijeet revealed that he was not informed about the song’s remake. He stated, “Mujhe music composer, film ke director kisi ne nahi bataya ki iss song ko remake kiya jaa raha hai. Himmat bhi nahi kar sakte batane ki,” indicating that neither the music composer nor the film’s director informed him about the remake, and they wouldn’t even dare to tell him.
Abhijeet further commented on the song’s significance, saying, “For me personally, Chunnari Chunnari was not a great song, never. It was one of those ‘jaldi gaao aur bhaago studio se’ song. I never count it among my great songs. This was one of those where the makers just wanted the lyrics to become a hit somehow.” He acknowledged, however, that over the past 25 years, the song has become iconic among fans, often played at functions and parties.
Addressing the trend of song remakes, Abhijeet remarked, “Mujhe farak nahi padhta itni chhoti cheez se. I don’t get involved much. In the market, copies are sold more than the original. Only great people know the value of the original. Tuchhi cheez mein main padhta hi nahi hoon,” suggesting that he doesn’t concern himself with such trivial matters and that only discerning individuals appreciate the value of the original.
