Faridkot’s New EP Nayi Baat Marks a Fresh, Expansive Chapter in Their Indie Journey

Faridkot, the beloved indie duo of IP Singh and Rajarshi Sanyal, are stepping into a new era with the release of their five-track EP Nayi Baat. Known for crafting heartfelt melodies and grounded storytelling, the band has built a strong reputation in India’s independent music circuit and this EP feels like a natural, confident evolution of their sound.

Nayi Baat brings together five tracks “Harjai,” “Nayi Baat,” “Sawaari,” “Aza,” and “Jaadugari.” Each song carries a different shade, but they all connect through an eagerness to experiment, explore, and surprise. The duo describe the EP as a mix of new ideas, new energies, and the joy of building something without boundaries. “Nayi Baat, as the name suggests, is a culmination of a lot of new ideas,” they shared. “The sonic range of the album is quite wide and we have just had a lot of fun while making this EP. It’s like a short novel and every song tells a part of the story.”

That storytelling instinct has been Faridkot’s backbone since the beginning. From their early days to songs that blew up through sheer listener love like “Jeda Nasha,” “Kaala Doriyaa,” and “Laila” the band has always chased honesty over formula. “We have always loved telling stories through our music and exploring various genres of music to tell them,” they reflected. “Once we decided on this thought, everything else became spontaneous. The zeal to make music and tell stories through it was so consuming that we just kept at it.”

This honesty, they believe, is exactly why listeners connect so deeply with their songs. “The audience is very smart and they can sniff out if something is not authentic. So we just try to put out music that we fully connect with and believe in.”

Their experience across independent music and film work has shaped how they approach each project. They admit there isn’t a huge difference in the creation process itself, but the intention shifts. “The process of making music in both scenarios is more or less the same. But the main difference is that we have to align ourselves with the vision of the director and producer. It’s a bigger collaboration, and you need to take everyone’s input into account, yet bring something original that you personally also believe in.”

Alongside the EP, Faridkot have already unveiled the music video for “Harjai,” giving fans a visual window into this new phase. With Nayi Baat, the duo continue to expand their sonic world staying true to who they are while boldly exploring who they can still become.
