Where Is Bombay Vikings Now? Revisiting India’s Hinglish Pop Icon

Bombay Vikings captured India’s imagination in the late 1990s and early 2000s with its unique Hinglish pop sound and Karachi-meets-Stockholm fusion. But where is Bombay Vikings today?

Founded in 1994 in Stockholm, the band started as a collaborative effort between Indian-born frontman Neeraj Shridhar and Swedish musicians Oscar Söderberg and Mats Nordenborg, all sharing a passion for Bollywood melodies. They became known for hits like Kya Soorat Hai, Woh Chali, and Chhod Do Aanchal, which remixed old Hindi film songs with modern beats and English lyrics. Their debut album Kya Soorat Hai (1999) became a surprise hit in India, and subsequent albums like Woh Chali (2001), Hawa Mein Udati Jaaye (2002), Chhod Do Aanchal (2004), and Zara Nazron Se Kehdo (2006) reinforced their position as pioneers of 90s Indian pop rejuvenation.

By 2006, the original lineup had mostly moved apart and Neeraj remained the band’s focal point. He continued under the Bombay Vikings name, releasing U n I in 2011. Since then, he has shifted focus toward playback singing and independent music ventures while still occasionally performing legacy hits live.

So where is Bombay Vikings now? The band no longer releases full albums but lives through Neeraj Shridhar’s ongoing music career. Recent releases under the name include Lofi versions of classics like Kabhie Phool Dena (Pyar Ke Naam) and Kahan Ho Tum, keeping the fusion spirit alive in a new form. There’s no official live tour or new group activity listed, but Neeraj continues to appear in acoustic sessions and concerts, performing both Vikings classics and his solo Bollywood hits like Prem Ki Naiyya and Tum Mile.

Fan communities continue to share nostalgic memories. Many recall childhood playlists filled with Kya Soorat Hai, Mona Re, Angel Eyes, and collaborations with Falguni Pathak. They often ask, “Where are they now?” The answer is that although Bombay Vikings as a band isn’t active, Neeraj Shridhar continues to represent their legacy through solo work and live performances.

In recent live shows, Neeraj has delivered Bombay Vikings hits like Woh Chali and Chhod Do Aanchal, proving the classic catalog still resonates strongly with audiences. Even now, such performances draw enthusiastic crowds in cities across India.

So while Bombay Vikings may no longer function as a full band, their spirit lives on. Neeraj Shridhar remains the sole continuous thread, carrying the brand forward by blending nostalgia with modern flow. Whether it’s revisiting timeless tracks or reinventing them for new audiences, Bombay Vikings exists today as a legacy act sustained through one artist’s ongoing musical journey.
